Note: This 'Stray Dog' topic began Saturday evening with the escape of two German Shepherds from the construction site at 1601 Colorado Boulevard. I suspect it will continue at least until reflection can be done after the dogs are found. What follows is the content of a series of emails exchanged during the first 15 hours or so after the escape:

I just called animal control because both of the german shepherd attack dogs escaped from the 1601 property about a half ago (7:30 pm). I thought you could inform our neighbors via e-mail to give them a heads-up. The construction site apparently fixed a gaping hole in the fence with light wire and the dogs managed to escape through that hole. It just happens to be right behind my fence. I am also wondering if there is anything as far as complaint wise that we can do about this careless mistake and I hope animal control gets those dogs before they do any harm.

I'm just reading this at 9:35 PM, on our way to bed. Catherine, you did good to call animal control. I'll put out an email alert within this reply. Let's keep one another posted. Hope for the best.

SCP residents,
I sent an email to you about 15 minutes ago; this is an update about two dogs, protectors of the premises at 1601 Colorado Boulevard, that were on the loose since 7:30 PM tonight. Animal control was contacted by one of our residents, who emailed me. I saw the email about 9:30 PM.
I called police dispatch, and was patched through to animal control.
The two dogs that escaped from the 1601 Colorado property are more accurately described as 'watch dogs' versus 'attack dogs', and apparently there is a discernible difference. That aside:
Apparently, someone cut open a patched area of the fence surrounding the property, allowing the two dogs to escape. There is a sign posted at the property for the "Top Dogs" company that owns the dogs, with a phone number.
The person at animal control didn't have the phone number for "Top Dogs", and wasn't sure but thought probably that the dogs had been found. He did say that the company was looking for the dogs.

More on the story....
I actually saw these same dogs mid-morning yesterday hightailing it south down the alley west of the site, then west on 16th. They got crosswise with a man running with his own dog on 16th, as well as with my son who tried to shoo them away, and then they went south on Jackson toward Colfax. I tried to call the company whose number (303-465-3762) is posted on the signs around the site (the ones that say, "Warning, dogs will attack") but they don't staff the phone line on weekends. Then I tried 311, also not staffed on weekends, and then I got distracted. Thanks, Catherine, for being on this.

Just to give a little more info about this incident...
I did initially contact 911 but they connected me to 311 then animal control. They took about a half hour to send someone out who only seemed to circle Harrison St and the alley. My next door neighbor mentioned he saw 2 german shephards heading toward City Park while I was on the phone with animal control yet the man from animal control did not seem to take that seriously. I also contacted John Ward to let him know and he sent one of his men out to investigate. The man from Landmark said he was the last one to lock up and everything seemed fine. He also admitted to "fixing" the hole in the fence but felt that someone undid the wire. He left claiming he was looking for the dogs but never mentioned the Top Dog company.
The "hole" has been there for about a week and the construction company patched it with light wire. After I showed the animal control person where I saw the one dog try to escape, he mentioned that german shephards could certainly get through it. I really do not believe someone cut that wire and believe with the high traffic of people and dogs, the german shephards became aggitated. I also mentioned attack dogs because that is what the signs say and when they bark they don't sound like the most cuddly of dogs. I took pictures of the hole because I feel like Landmark is being negligent with this project.
To my surprise, people from the construction site came out and actually replaced the section of the fence around 9 pm last night which they should have done in the first place. This was a different set of people and they didn't seem to be looking for the dogs. I asked animal control to call me back if and when they captured the dogs, but I never heard back from them.
I feel like Landmark consistently creates "problems" primarily for the people behind the project and don't seem to take responsibility for their actions. It would be horrific if those dogs did indeed hurt someone. How can we help them to be more accountable?
Thank you for sharing the info and for your consistent help, I really do appreciate it!

I called the Top Dog company (thanks Dave for the #) to see if the dogs have been found. The guy said they are still searching for them and it is not uncommon for them to return to the job site. I told him I would get his name and number out to the neighborhood in case anyone spotted them. His name is Jim and his cell is 720-273-8707. He requested that if the dogs are spotted, to please call him immediately. I also asked him to call me if they dogs were found. It is a little unsettling to know they are still on the loose.
Thanks for everyone's help and hopefully they will be found soon.
